I asked another friend if she wanted it. She didn't, but suggested the owner try Family of Woodstock. Apparently they will accept donated computers. The owner checked with them and was told to hold on to it until some poor family asked for a PC. She wants to get rid of the thing ASAP and isn't willing to hold the machine until someone expresses interest. Anyway, I will update the Web page entry to add FoW. I'm open to any other places that might accept this box, that are nearby and the owner is willing to deal with.
I tried out the printer (HP DeskJet 660C) and it won't print color. I did the head clean driver function and no luck. I washed the cartridge in warm water, and a little ink flows out, so it's probably not clogged. The owner says she never tried printing in color, so it's possible this thing (the cartridge or printer itself) has been defective since Day One. Anyone familiar with this printer who knows any tricks of the trade? It prints the test page beautifully in B&W, but I haven't tried graphics. Also, the power switch seems to be stuck 'on'. The "O|" switch on the front clicks, but the light doesn't go off. I'm assuming that the light by the switch indicates that power is on. Ideas? I will google for online manuals.
