Yes, I had a look. That was clearly a good talk which covered configuring
and compiling a 2.4 kernel by hand. The compile process changed somewhat
with the release of 2.6, and I'm looking to give a slightly different talk
anyway about how to compile the kernel and modules directly to easily
installable packages "the Debian way" which also covers Ubuntu. I'll try to
give links for how to do the same thing for other systems.

   You do. ;-)

In December when Joe was trying to figure out what to do for the meeting
for January he had an online poll, and based on what I saw I made a
suggestion for this talk, and Joe of course later suggested that I give it
myself. :-P
There's one catch: I probably will not have a laptop that will be suitable
for any kind of live demonstration, so hopefully someone will be willing to
lend me thier laptop with perhaps a fresh Ubuntu install running in a VMware
session or something like that, and allow me to have root access on it in
order to install packages.

As far as I know right now giving a talk on April 2 should be fine.
