It looks like there'll be a presentation on compiling a kernel soon, and I'm looking forward to it. >> [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ sudo modprobe acpi >> FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq >> (/lib/modules/2.6.22.15-desktop-1.uc1mdv/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufre >> q/acpi-cpufreq.ko.gz): No such device > Hmm. Yep, it's there. Everything in that directory is *.ko.gz . Some of the modules, like /lib/modules/2.6.22.15-desktop-1.uc1mdv/kernel/drivers/hwmon/it87.ko.gz , seem to load without a problem. Maybe Mandriva is doing something weird or nonstandard. I guess I should ask in the Mandriva newsgroup. Thanks again for all your help and your patience with all my questions!
