though work (azimuth) I've got a server at http://www.mosso.com/
Rather than a hosted server , it's a industrial strength cluster. Personally I like it better than being burdened with managing a specific server . What I get : as many web sites as I want, I think it's 80 Gig of storage. as many email addresses and databases that I want. (mysql ) Great support and a location on rackspace's massive bandwidth. (more than I could ever imagine hitting) . Sights hosted there could actually endure a slashdotting. What I don't get , (compared to a hosted server) root access. or even ssh access (they say it's coming ) and the ability to install and test new or different versions of software. But I actually view that as a plus, cause I don't have to manage anything weird as well. If you have web sites that are built on standard LAMP (you can chose versions of php on a domain name basis) this is a no-brainer solution for me. At $100/month , for what you are getting (particularly when compared to hosted servers) it's a bargain. If that price point is too high or you need to tweek the server in funny ways I'd look into a virtual server or a hosted server at a cheaper site. I have had other stuff @ http://www.webintellects.com/ for more than a year now. ( on a VPS) I think I pay $39/month on a annual contract. They have been ok. At times it took longer than I would like to get a response. but that service is worth what I pay for it. That server is slow, and could not put up with a high demand. I see that their hosted servers start at more than mosso's cluster. In the past I had a single server directly at rackspace (www.rackspace.com) but the price point got just to high for me. and it's a pain to upgrade versions on a remote machine. I think they start @ $400/month to host a server. I'll gladly answer any other questions you have. --Russell Polo John Mort wrote: > Anyone know of any decent local server colocations?
