The upgrade ran to completion. Thanks very much for your help. There is a further problem. I'm writing this at 11:30 PM, so debugging will have to wait for tomorrow. When I rebooted Ubuntu, the X Window system did not come up. I have a guess as to what the problem is, based on what I've read about Fedora 9. I use the proprietary NVIDIA driver for my graphics card. Fedora 9 shipped with a new version of X (or Xorg ?) and NVIDIA has not yet shipped an updated driver. My guess is that Ubuntu 8.04 has the same problem. (My main OS at this time is Fedora 7). _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) MHVLS Auditorium Jun 4 - Sqeak! and eToys Jul 2 - KVM (Tenative) Aug 6 - Zenos Sep 3 - TBD
