You can also try to run linux on windows with colinux/andlinux
http://www.colinux.org/

Andlinux is a easy installer for colinux.
http://andlinux.org/

The performance is great. Its hard to notice any performance difference.
It also allows you to run all the x apps on windows if you install xming
which is an X server for windows (it can be installed automatically with
andlinux).
The performance for the X apps are a tiny bit slower because it uses a
virtual network but its still might be faster then virtualisation.

You could also confuse the hell out of your linux friends by installing
this theme on xp and having linux X apps on the screen heheheh
This may be pure evil. :oD

Another pretty cool feature of Andlinux is that you can right click a
folder on explorer to open a console on the folder.
