I've found different results on different machines. It really depends on how
much juice the computer has and exactly what you need to do. Vmware emulates
a system from the bios up and is therefore more system intensive , it can
even emulate different hardware to test different things. I also find that
there are certain programs wine has issues with, for instance transcender
software has issues for whatever reason. I typically find its better to just
find a replacement that does the same thing and runs natively under linux
and in the case that it doesnt ill use vmware or its open source counter
part Xen <http://xen.org> theres also a sun version called  *Sun* xVM *
VirtualBox* <http://www.sun.com/software/products/virtualbox/get.jsp>.
