Hi everybody! Your opinions wanted here...
... for a quality ISP with inexpensive unlimited local dialup access,
for my parents. Do any of you know anyone who's using dialup locally
and is either happy or unhappy with their ISP? This is the kind of
thing where it's easy to get a list of ISPs, but I'd really appreciate
anybody's first-hand (or second-hand) experience on their quality.
BestWeb dialup was fine at first, but it got to the point where it was
disconnecting them about every five minutes. They switched to NetZero
which has the advantage of being cheap ($10/month unlimited), but
NetZero requires their own customized browser, and the Windows version
is impossibly buggy and I couldn't even get their Linux version to dial.
So would anybody be able to point me toward (or away from!) an ISP that
offers dialup with most of the following?
Reliable (few busy signals, rarely drops connections)
Fast (usually connects around 50 kbps)
Local access numbers to Wappingers (e.g. Poughkeepsie or Newburgh)
Works with any standard browser and email client under any OS
Preferably inexpensive for unlimited access (e.g. closer to $10/month if
possible, but would consider more)
Customer support that knows what they're doing
Would be nice if it offered more than one email address per account
This is the kind of thing where personal recommendations would be really
helpful. I suppose most of you have broadband, but I'm hoping you know
people who still use dialup and can offer some opinions on the ISPs.
Thank you VERY much in advance! Just being able to tell my parents
about a /good/ ISP would be a nice Father's Day present in itself.
Adam
