Ubuntu keeps changing the options under system->preferences, there is no removable storage this time around. Poking around in gconf-editor (taking me back to all those hours spent in XP's regedit ;-) I came across apps->nautilus->preferences->media_automount, which is a bit overkill as I wanted to just specify to leave my ipod alone, not complicate inserting external hard drives and flash drives and such, but I'm going to give that a shot for now and see what happens. If mounting my other devices manually is trivial then I might just leave automount disabled altogether. -- John D.
