Subject: [mhvlug] LibreOffice 3.3.0 released today ( it's OpenOffice -
Oracle == better )
Date: Tue, 25 Jan 2011 11:34:40 -0500

LibraOffice is free as in beer (aka Libra) and Open as it allows the
contributions of the community to be accepted without corporate
oversight of Oracle.
The reason why OpenOffice is not progressing is mainly do to the fact
that Oracle is gate-keeping every new feature.
Also Oracle is looking to monitise parts of OpenOffice when used in a
business and or school situation.

Today version 3.3.0 was released as final and is available for download
for Linux, MS Windows and Apple OS/X:
http://www.libreoffice.org/download

LibreOffice offers the following features:

      * Powerful business productivity suite:
              * A word processor - Write professional-looking letters
                effortlessly!
              * A spreadsheet - Use it to run a business or managing
                your monthly budget!
              * A presentation - Make Business slide sets or your
                children's homework!
              * An all-purpose diagramming and chart - Make your own
                graphics and drawings at home.
              * Database designer/manager that can connect and manage
                any JDBC and ODBC databases.
Why Use LibreOffice at Home?
Although LibreOffice is a powerful and feature-rich office suite, it is
simple enough for the home user.
It has all the productivity applications you need at home:

      * There is no purchase cost or annual license fee: LibreOffice is
        absolutely free!
      * There is no fine print - Use LibreOffice in whatever way you
        want.
      * The same copy of LibreOffice can be freely used on any number of
        computers. Share it with your friends and neighbors.
      * Give away as many copies as you want. Every copy of
        LibreOffice is a legal (and free) copy.
      * LibreOffice can handle files created in all commercial office
        suites. So you don't need those commercial office applications

        LibreOffice code to hone their own programming skills.
