Cool. Now that you've found the Unbutu package works, if you're curious why one works and the other doesn't, you could get the source package and have a quick look at the 'debdiff' or the .diff that Debian/Ubuntu used to make their package compared to upstream. If there's an entry for something that covers the bug you found, then it's something known and thus no need to report it as a new bug, or likewise that can also help track down exactly what to report upstream if you still want to report the bug.
