I have the droid 1 or A855 i believe is the non market speak model. Its old
and slow in comparison to others but it works. Id say that i get about 12 to
14 hours out of it and my 5 email accounts are all set to push. What you do
on the device will greatly effect battery life and the display is always the
leader on my stats. Currently my stats are display 31%, os - idle - standy
- wifi -cell all about 12%, gmail 3%. If Im bored somewhere and play nes
games for two hours or read a book im lucky to make it home without battery
warnings. I rarely use a browser on it. Always checking & writing emails. I
also ssh and of course phone and im. Texting isnt really my thing limits
character count (nothing like getting a text split into two with the last
coming first!) and with im and google voice my voicemails come to me as
email so i still can get messages or chat if my phone dies or i forget it.
The only two things that annoy me are the cost and touchscreen. The monthly
billing is a rip off of just shy $200 bucks a month for the two droids. The
cost is dumb im almost always near wifi and my data really is only my mail,
im, and phone calls. Phone calls shouldnt cost anything more than a regular
phone and im and mail probably dont amount to more than 200 meg a month. Id
have no problem downloading apps on a computer and synching them to the
phone rather than using phone data. Tethering to a pc is an additional cost
unless you do so unofficially. My other issue ive had is my touchscreen
flips out because of water, most recently was yesterday by the pool when a
few droplets got on the screen from diving. It flips out and takes a few
hours to hopefully dry and settle down during which time the phone is
useless since you can only unlock with touchscreen so removing battery and
waiting is all i can do. Also slight drizzling outside will act as multiple
fingers touching screen. There are i believe some companies that will
encase phones or any electronic device in thin *plastic* coats that make
them waterproof. Im waiting for something like this to become standard
since phones go everywhere and expecting them to never come into contact
with such a common element is ridiculous imo.
