Amazing. The normal procedure is to immediately shut the ATM down and prove it, just like a teller's window. Calling the banks 24 hour 800 number should be enough, as it can be shut down remotely and then proved in the morning. A lot of banks run their ATM's independently of their branches so maybe you talked to the wrong person or waited too long to complain. The two pieces of white paper should mean that somewhere an account has $40 too much in it.

Did they follow those procedures? I would have moved my banking business immediately. The banks know that is what a lot of people do, so they should have tried harder. I have seen multi-million dollar payroll accounts moved because the paymaster lost money in a good with one of his personal accounts.

A complaint to the state superintendent of banking or a small claims suit would have worked to, as they don't want trouble over $40 with what lawyers charge to represent them in court. Most state superintendents of banking have caseworkers with the right phone numbers and get their calls returned when they call.

I used to work in bank security.

Trust the bank? Not the bank of America.
One time I went to an ATM to get $40. I got two pieces
of white paper. The bank said they couldn't do anything
about it, even though I showed them the two pieces of paper,
somewhat chewed up by the machine.

The banks are sometimes even slimier than you would think.

As for Google, have you read the latest notice about how
they use your information?

I have started using other web search engines as a result.

I notice that the first page of results is not just a bunch
of ads that are completely worthless for my searches,
like it is on Google.
