On my '92, I originally used a Mocal thermostat plate, -10 lines, and a tiny (very tiny) Earl's cooler. Worked ok when driving hard the canyons, but for regular street use it took half of eternity for the oil to warm up, and it never seemed to go above 170°, which is too cold in my book.

I removed that setup and replaced it with one of the stock oil/water exchangers that came as OEM hardware on all the 1.8 Miatas- got it from FM Salvage for relatively cheap. Now, my oil warms up even faster than it did originally, tends to run about 210°, and I don't think I've ever seen it go over 230° or so.

Hello,

Looking for some advise on adding an oil cooler to my turbo 91. I live in Maine and have not had any heat issues (running the BEGI scooper), but would like some additional insurance for track days. I think a thermostat would be important as the car does see some cool weather action in the spring and fall.

I know that Moss has a couple of kits, the cheaper one has a thermostat but appears to be a little cheap, the more expensive setup looks better quality wise, but no t-stat.

What are you guys running for coolers?
