How about LEAVE the oils squirters and DELETE the Total Seal rings?

I think there is little to be gained if they do perform, and much to be lost
if they under perform. In a race car where the motor is being torn down
between each event, maybe experimenting is worth the risk.

What exactly do you hope to gain from the TS rings?

Got a couple questions from my engine builder (building my street 300whp
1.8L, Wiseco 8.8CR skirt-coated pistons) concerning Total Seal rings that I
need
some opinions on:

1. The Total Seal guy is suggesting that we use a gapless ring as the top
ring, and the highest possible tension on the oil control ring. I was thinking
the gapless ring was usually used for the *second* ring for boosted
applications.
2. More confounding, the Total Seal guy is suggesting that we plug the oil
squirters. I'm thinking..., whaaa', HUH??? This would make sense for a built
N/A motor, but it seems like a terrible idea for boosted street engine, where
temps are much higher. (Also, I plan to use an oil cooler, so I would think
I'd want as much heat transferred to the oil as possible.) Thoughts?
3. (This question is my own!) Are the Total Seal rings just a bad idea? I
know they have a sketchy history with Miatas, but I thought they've been
redesigned since them. And yet I'm still reading about people burning
excessive oil
with them. I don't mind the extra $$ for the Toal Seals, but especially
considering this is for a street car, am I better off just using with the
conventional rings that came with the Wisecos? What's the scoop?

Thanks, and I hope to be posting some pretty dyno plots in another month or
two!
