Propane may be a good high octane (but low BTU) fuel, that IIRC any gasoline 
motor can run on without modification.
Just need a mixing valve off of a CAT or whatever you build.

Unfortunately, the price of LPG rides the price of gasoline and has gone 
thru the roof.
CNG compressed natural gas, is the cheapest fuel out there right now, and 
has similar properties IIRC give or take some BTUs.

Probably won't be long before it is rediscovered, and heads up in price as 
well.

On diesels the LP improves combustion, even on NA motors by burning the 
diesel fuel cleaner, if added in small quantities.  I have tried it will 
pre-detonate even at cruize if too much is added on a 25:1 IDI. The HP gains 
are modest, not so on a turbo diesel.

The 103 octane some reported sounds interesting...
