I am considering it myself. .The only gasser I could convert is a 82 Mazda
pickup, probably a good candidate anyway, with plenty of underbody space on the
longbed for cylinders.
I am turning my LPG tank (fireplace back to wood) and see if it is possible to
get CNG, (no piped in gas here yet) although I am sure filling a portable tank
is a no no, would have to get a pump.
Hopefully doesn't loose too much HP as it has little to spare.
I see no reason not to make a multi-fuel vehicle, cheap to run, and can burn
gasoline as needed. I think this would be a cool project.

I am not running the Mazda pickup much because of its dismal 22MPG, and the
fun factor.

North America produces just about the most natural gas anywhere. Dallas and
Austin Texas have pipes coming out of nearly every mall and church parking lot.

While not on my near or midterm plans someday I plan to look into CNG
conversion.

Unfortunately, the price of LPG rides the price of gasoline and has gone
    thru the roof.
CNG compressed natural gas, is the cheapest fuel out there right now, and
has similar properties IIRC give or take some BTUs.

Probably won't be long before it is rediscovered, and heads up in price as
    well.
