I also have 8 jackstands. Because my Miata is so low, even my low profile race jack won't fit under the front or rear of the car and slides just barely under the rocker panels, so I jack it from the side.
I raise it all the way up and place the stands then go to the other side and raise it to match. Once up there, I grab the roll bar and give the car a good shake to make sure it is stable. Taking it off the stands is the reverse, all the way down in one trip per side. I have strips of thick rubber I place between the stand and the seam under the rocker panels. I also have a large square of it that I put between the jack and the car to protect the seams. I got 8 stands too, a full set of normal sized stands about 15" tall and a set of the TALL stands from Sam's Club which I can set close to 21" high safely. Trust me, that extra 6" is night and day difference when wrenching on under there. I just use the small stands to raise the car up enough to slip the big stands in, and I just take my time doing either side (Left or Right) of the car, and keeping difference in height less than 2 notches at any given time till I reach the desired height. As for driving the car up onto 2x4 blocks so the jack can slip under there, I think Costco sometimes carries an aluminum jack that clears a lowered car fine, atleast it does on mine, and a lot of ppl consider my car pretty low. :) -Thuwa -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Chuck Wills Sent: July 24, 2008 11:13 AM To: Matthew McKay Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: Quality Jackstands? I always use 4 jackstands, and then slide some spare wheels or concrete blocks under the car to keep me from being crushed if one of the stands slips or fails. I don't like the 2 jackstand thing at all. I've got several kinds of stands laying around... I think my most recent purchase was from Harbor Freight. So far, so good! :) -Chuck Matthew McKay wrote: > Hey everyone, > I'm looking for some quality jackstands for my NA. What stands are > people satisfied with?
