Only problem with that method is you can't change seals/water pump etc.

I don't think he's going to drive the car in the mean time.  But it's
a nice way of putting on a new belt -- if you can slice the old belt
in half width wise (going to be hard to get the razor all the way
around, but worth a shot), giving you enough space to put the new belt
on the gears so that when you cut the old belt in half length wise you
can push the new belt all the way on all without ever having to reset
the gears.

Seems like it would save a lot of time if cutting the old belt in half
doesn't take too long.  And you don't have to worry about slipping a
tooth when putting the new belt on.
