Larry, you've forgotten more about this than I've ever heard, much less learned;
however, I can read what Bosch says:
http://www.boschautoparts.com/Resources/VehiclePartFinder/
the Bosch vehicle part finder lists the 13551 as the OE type (13863 in CA) and
the 15733 as the universal type for a 2000 Miata.--different engine from mine
with the VVT or whatever it is
but for a 2002 Miata Bosch says use the 13581 OE type and the 15730 universal
type
Bosch invented the oxygen sensor -- they ought to know -- they no longer make
the 13275 -- all that are available are old stock that has been sitting in
someone's shelf since 1989-1996 (12 to 19 years!!) Has any of the technology
changed in 19 years?
here's what the 13275 was designed for regardless of whether it will physically
fit my 2002
Item Description:
* BOSCH 4-wire O2 oxygen sensor
* Part # 13275
* Front oxygen sensor
* Protection tube ensures 100% accurate sensor performance
* Double laser-welded stainless steel body is totally submersible to seal
tight and protect against contamination for long life
* Fast-acting heater optimizes sensor operation (on3- and 4- wire sensors
only)
* Coated threads for easy installation
* Used in Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Plymouth, Passenger Car/Pickup/SUV/Van
* You can visit the web-site
http://www.boschautoparts.com/Resources/VehiclePartFinder for determining if
this sensor is suitable for your car

Thanks again everyone

The connector I used on the early Miatas that came from the factory with single
wire sensors was just a plain ol' 4 conductor Molex connector, not Miata
specific. Ford (and a lot of Mazda's) switched over to using an O2 sensor with
a 3.3 Ohm heater around 2000, my 2003 Mustang uses such a sensor. Most older
sensors, including the 13275 which was OEM for an '87 Oldsmobile, use 6 Ohm
heaters that are not compatible with the newer engine computers that switch the
heaters on and off as needed.
I fear I also cannot provide much assistance as to the 13275 working in a 2002
Miata, in fact it may not.

I think I'd better forget the 13275 due to the change in ohm ratings for the
heater and get the 13581 plug 'n play, OE type per the Bosch web site for my
2002 Miata (interestingly the Amazon.com site says this does NOT fit my Miata!!)
What the heck. I ordered the 13581 from Amazon.com and I hope it just plugs
right in and works like a charm. I'll let you know.
Thanks again for your help.
