dont forget that diesels are unthrottled (no air restriction) so revving it higher actually pushes more cold air through the engine. So low revs + high load is prob the way to go.
our Mondeo diesel would take about about twice as long as the petrol cars to warm up ... in 10-20*C weather that was about 10 minutes :P have you thought about a block heater? I noticed in Sweden that car parks have electrical plugs for 'em.. useful when it's -20*C on any given wintry day.
