Considering that it's a German car, I'm surprised it doesn't have an
external temperature sensor with multi-stage computer-controlled doors
to control the amount of air going through the radiator.

My Audi actually has three radiators.  The main one, plus two smaller ones
behind the fog lights, and computer-controlled valves to shunt water
between them.  Most people who take the grille off one of these cars
think they're intercoolers and then wonder why a naturally aspirated
V8 has them. :)
