Honestly, I don't think it will settle anything for one simple reason: lack of historical perspective. There's no way to know how things were in the same detail we have now a hundred or even 50 years ago. The IPCC report was a CONSERVATIVE estimation of climate change. It may be as it suggests, it may be much worse than that. The truth is, humans do a lot of little things that add carbon to the atmosphere. Things as simple as tilling soil can have huge impacts on releases of carbon. Interestingly NASA has plans to get a carbon sniffing satellite up in orbit so it can directly view large scale carbon emissions from space. It will show regions where carbon is produced and regions where carbon is absorbed.
