Local Chambers often do get in the sack with an insurance company and
offer their product to members. We looked into it several years ago and
it wasn't a good deal. As far as NASE and Mega, BTDT, too. Check out
http://www.thedoctorweighsin.com/journal/2007/8/1/we-must-be-stupid-stup
id-stupid-mega-life-and-health.html . Nothing but complaints if you
google Mega.

Just as an interesting side story, our insurance is up for renewal and
our agent was here today. The policy we had last year went up 40.6% this
year, so once again we have to downgrade coverage a little more just so
FM and our employees can afford coverage. There has actually been a fair
amount of national coverage of our local health insurance company and
how they cooperate so well with doctors, etc and would be a good model
for the rest of the country to look at. If rates were going up 40%
nationwide, I'm not seeing this as the model to aspire to. And we had to
leave the "model" (Rocky Mountain HMO) and go to Blue Cross/Blue Shield
just to keep at a survivable cost.

Our local chamber has had an insurance program in the past, but I don't
think it's a de facto part of what they offer.
When I reviewed their policy, I was able to get a more competitive
program through National Association of Self Employed, which has
policies available from MEGA insurance. It wasn't the greatest policy
in the world, but their costs were very well controlled over the 4 years
I had the insurance.

I just checked with the local Chamber of Commerce and they don't
know what you're talking about.

They've never heard of an insurance program that's available by
joining the Chamber

yes. if you have the money to buy health coverage to
begin with (:you should pay for insurance if you want it), and have no
job let say, then just start a small business by opening a checking
acct, print some business cards, join your local chamber, and presto you
in a group health plan with no way they can refuse you. might even make
a few $$ with your new small business too.

also, there are other resources for state-subsidized
health coverage in many states if you are truly destitute.

if you have a pre-existing condition,
you have many options to join a group. (like, gettng a job whic has
group health) you can even start a small business and jin through your
ocal chamber of commerse. you cannot be denied.

                                the preexisting issue is greatly
exxagerated. to replace that with bad scial medicine would be a poor
bargain.

Let's see... the economy is sucky, more people
are out of work than, well...perhaps EVER, home foreclosure counts have
never been higher, only the wealthy have money to invest, and you
suggest getting hired by a company that has health coverage or starting
one's own business? My friend, don't you think that people are
attempting to do this every day?
