I’m less concerned with “drop right in” and more concerned with “oh, dude, you can’t sue an 06MT motor on an 07AT. It won’t fit at all, you’re screwed.”
So long as I can unbolt external parts from the old engine and put them on the new to make it fit, I’m ok with that. The 2009 motor does not have forged rods. Not sure about the crank though. I have double checked the parts #’s, in the engines, with Mazda already. Go with 2006 rods or Forged Rods! If you want to know if a 6AT engine from an ’06 will drop into an ’07. I’d be happy to ask. As far as tuning goes, the car was not tuned in Ohio. Only Texas. The tune could have changed some, but not excessive so. The owner of the car does not have AFR gauge or live data, as far as I know. Tuning the 6AT car is tricky. It must run richer in order to avoid detonation, and so that the timing is not excessively retarded with the Xede. Could the tune have failed the motor? Doubtful. The car had nearly 800 miles on it, tuned, before it went home. It could be this car does not like 1st gear and full boost at redline (from one of the story I heard). Douglas Subject: RE: NC Engine Strongest Rods? Chad I know the car you are putting together; It has automatic trans, was for sale on Craigslist out of Ohio I think. Probably no difference between engines: I would check out if 2009 was Forged or only 2010. Then try to find one across country from that year chassis. Keep in mind, most likely cause of the failure was poor tune. The car was a prototype for BEGI, and who knows who serviced it after it left them. Single Vacuum line can mean no boost sensing for piggy back (Xede) or similar silly issue leading to detonation, leading to thrown rod or cracked piston. None the less, I think that the end product will be fantastic car to drive. NC chassis with BEGI turbo- throw on some wide-wheels and suspension and you got a rocket. Goodwin manages to stuff up to 265 on stock and 285 with flares. Ivica --- On Mon, 6/21/10, Chad J. Douglas <[email protected]> wrote: From: Chad J. If he orders one from a manual car, can the parts be swapped or are we hosed? How can we be sure that the XEDE wasn’t outsmarted by the stock ECU, causing a lean condition? Once I get the motor out I’ll get lots of pics, so perhaps we’ll just have to wait on that one. From: Stephanie Turner [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, June 21, 2010 11:57 AM To: Chad J. Douglas; [email protected] Subject: RE: NC Engine Strongest Rods? Chad, Go with the 2006 motor, if you can find one with an auto tranny. If it came off of another NC, it will be a direct swap. If you end up having to get the Duratec 2.0L Motor out of another car, then there might some converting to do. But not a whole lot. Having swapped NC motors before, you will not find many issues. It is pretty straight forward and easy enough to do. Be careful taking the CAM sensor off. It breaks very easily. I am working on an engine swap on a 2007 GT Automatic with a BEGi S3 kit installed. The engine blew up under boost. Some of the research I’ve been doing suggests that one of the other years’ engines may have stronger internals. Is this true? If so, what year should I look for in the wrecking yard, and will there be any issues adapting that engine into a 2007 chassis? Worst-case, I’ll just get another 2007 engine, but if the 2007s have weaker internals, I’d not want this car to suffer the same fate. Thoughts? I need to know soon, since we need to get the replacement engine ordered within the next week or so.
