I think it is reasonable.  You should ask at least $4k and go down
from there, if necessary.
You can probably part it out and get more than $3.5k.

The good news is when you get to the other side, and the kids start
hauling themselves around, you can get another Miata and build it to
suit your more mature tastes.
Expect to spend about two or three Miatas a year on tuition per kid,
though.  Better to start planning and saving now.
