are the slider pins replaceable? if so, where to get some, i'll order them before getting into it.

Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2011 00:18:05 -0500 looks like the preponderance is Hawk street pads. Thanks for all the advice. hard to believe but my DD is basically a 20 year old car! it runs good and wears like a comfy old sneaker. I'm trying to get all it's issues repaired so it is an old but fully functional Miata DD. To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Re: Which hawk pads? Date: Mon, 7 Mar 2011 07:32:10 -0500 From: [email protected] I'll offer this - My Subaru has 4 wheel discs, but the stock braking left a LOT to be desired. I replaced the stock pads with Hawk HPS (the street pads), and the braking improved immensely. You don't want racing pads for the street because they won't work well until they get good 'n HOT. Street driving doesn't allow them to get hot enough unless you drive in a most dangerous manner. Hawk street pads work very well. I'd also steer clear of those EBS green pads because they ooze a dark goo. Jerry AKA LGO hi list, back onto my brakes, as the time is coming. this is an effort to marginally improve the street braking experience ok i am getting close to doing my brakes/rotors/ and possibly caliper(s) if I find one is dragging (other post) on the 92 auto DD the frustrating thing is that I would like better braking than oem or replacement pads. SOME listers have said the hawk street pads are the ticket, others say they are crappy feeling. is there a pad that improves the braking from oem, but is durable for daily use? also, are there rotors better than generic replacement ones from autozone or whatever? (resist warping) finally, if anyone has upgraded their NA brakes, and has good rotors or caplipers I would be interested. thanks! -----Original Message----- From: B Johnson <[email protected]> To: [email protected]; [email protected] Cc: [email protected]; [email protected] Sent: Sun, Mar 6, 2011 1:44 pm Subject: RE: Which hawk pads? hi list, back onto my brakes, as the time is coming. this is an effort to marginally improve the street braking experience ok i am getting close to doing my brakes/rotors/ and possibly caliper(s) if I find one is dragging (other post) on the 92 auto DD the frustrating thing is that I would like better braking than oem or replacement pads. From: [email protected] To: [email protected] CC: [email protected]; [email protected] Perhaps the issue is changing pad compounds on existing rotors? There is supposedly a film on a rotor that needs to be compatible with the pad compound. (I am not entirely convinced of this.) I have replaced pads with HPS for a lot of people, and then PROPERLY bed them. They then grip with excellent feel. I have never had a disappointed customer yet. Of course, they are generally upgrading from stock (or worse) pads. They were dusty, noisy, spendy, and had great initial bite and easily modulated friction. Once I stopped going to the track I switched to HPS. They were quiet, clean, and may as well have been made of wood. Terrible feel- I really hated them. Weird that I had such a bad experience contrary to everyone else; I've no explanation for this. I don't think you are alone. Though not the same car, I went from HP+ to HPS on the subaru and the feel of the HPS is very soft in comparison. The initial bite is not there with a dead feeling post switching. Its been years since I had stock pads on the WRX, but I gather the HPS feels similar or a tad better then OEM. Reason for changing: HP+ is a high friction pad, plenty of dust (I do clean the car, but its heavy dust that does not like to be washed away easily), and the accelerated rotor wear I observed which for a street only car seemed a bit over the top. - b _______________________________________________ Miatapower mailing list [email protected] http://list.miatapower.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/miatapower _______________________________________________ Miatapower mailing list [email protected] http://list.miatapower.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/miatapower = _______________________________________________ Miatapower mailing list [email protected] http://list.miatapower.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/miatapower _______________________________________________ Miatapower mailing list [email protected] http://list.miatapower.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/miatapower = _______________________________________________ Miatapower mailing list [email protected] http://list.miatapower.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/miatapower
