I'll offer this - My Subaru has 4 wheel discs, but the stock braking left a LOT to be desired. I replaced the stock pads with Hawk HPS (the street pads), and the braking improved immensely. You don't want racing pads for the street because they won't work well until they get good 'n HOT. Street driving doesn't allow them to get hot enough unless you drive in a most dangerous manner. Hawk street pads work very well. I'd also steer clear of those EBS green pads because they ooze a dark goo.
Jerry AKA LGO hi list, back onto my brakes, as the time is coming. this is an effort to marginally improve the street braking experience ok i am getting close to doing my brakes/rotors/ and possibly caliper(s) if I find one is dragging (other post) on the 92 auto DD the frustrating thing is that I would like better braking than oem or replacement pads. SOME listers have said the hawk street pads are the ticket, others say they are crappy feeling. is there a pad that improves the braking from oem, but is durable for daily use? also, are there rotors better than generic replacement ones from autozone or whatever? There is supposedly a film on a rotor that needs to be compatible with the pad compound. (I am not entirely convinced of this.) I have replaced pads with HPS for a lot of people, and then PROPERLY bed them. They then grip with excellent feel. I have never had a disappointed customer yet. Of course, they are generally upgrading from stock (or worse) pads. I don't think you are alone. Though not the same car, I went from HP+ to HPS on the subaru and the feel of the HPS is very soft in comparison. The initial bite is not there with a dead feeling post switching. Its been years since I had stock pads on the WRX, but I gather the HPS feels similar or a tad better then OEM.
