Depends on what he wants from the lift.

A drive on 4 post is the most versatile but not always the easiest lift to
use. You can double your parking space since you can drive on it and lift
the car and park one under it quickly. It's good for any under car work
where you need free access to the car, like a clutch job. it's bad for
doing things on the wheels since the car it's on the wheels on the lift but
you can get what they call a bridge. You slide it under the car and use a
jack to lift the car off the wheels and block the car and remove the wheels.

A 2 post lift where you lift the car on the chassis is not as easy to but
the car onto since you have to take the time to set the lift under the car
properly. It gives free access to the under car and to the wheels. It's
not useful for parking under for the reason of the time to get the lift set.
it's not useful for work you need to do under the car with the weight on the
cars wheels.

If I had one lift it would be a 4 post drive on.

Subject: What type of lift to get?

A friend of mine is planning to buy a lift for his garage. He is puzzled by
the different types, and not sure which type to buy.

Can anyone explain the pros and cons to different types available?

Anyone have any suggestions about good brands?

Thanks...Steve
