In addition to 2 post and 4 post there are the reletively new scissor type lifts and the "low rise" 4 post lifts you use a floor jack to lift. A freind wanted a lift after seeing mine but only had 8.5' ceilings so he ended up getting a 4 post low rise lift. He uses his floor jack to raise the car about 2 ft.
