If the Small Faces and the Faces (both of whom were VERY popular on local
radio back in their day) aren't the same band because of musical style,
then why is rap in the Hall at all? It is most definitely NOT the same
musical style as rock music. I'm just sayin'. To me it seems a desperate
attempt to somehow remain current (even tho' the Hall's focus is by
definition on yesteryear), and makes no sense (altho' it makes dollars and
cents, I suppose). No hip-hop act belongs in....let them get their own Hall
of Fame. (Side note on the Small Faces/Faces, BTW, what did Glen Matlock
ever have to do with them?)
I think I've already said here that I'm old enough to recall when Donovan
was Important (and his real crime is that he tied his career a little too
closely to that Flower Power crapola, and by the time it was over, he was
writing songs like Intergalactic Laxative, and had clearly run out of
ideas), I don't have a problem with him. But Don Kirshner!?! The man
responsible for more bad, manufactured music than almost anybody!?!
Archies, anybody?
In my who cares cartegory, we also find Laura Nyro (who wrote a couple hits
for others, notably the Fifth Dimension...come to think of it, my parents
had one of their albums.....I hate them!!). And I never found out what a
Stone Soul Picnic was....
Freddie King, Glyn Johns & the Peppers all belong. I'm glad they passed
over War...without Eric Burdon, they'd never have been heard of on a
national level.
Passing over Joan Jett was a mistake. She is rock'n'roll. Period. It's what
she does, and what she's done since she was 16 years old. And I'm simply an
interested observer, not necessarily a huge fan.
Side note about Rufus with Chaka Khan......they evolved from the American
Breed (Bend Me, Shape Me) through of personnel changes.
And of course, the Bitch-That-I-Pitch every year: Where are Jethro Tull,
the Yes, the Moody Blues & King Crimson (to name several huge bands that
have somehow been overlooked again and again...)
