1933 – Chicago radio station WLS’s popular program, The National Barn
Dance - one of the first country music radio shows - goes national
with a move to NBC radio.
1935 – The Gershwin musical, Porgy And Bess, opens at the Colonial
Theatre in Boston.
1950 – The Grand Ole Opry radio show is broadcast on television for
the first time on NBC affiliate WSM-TV in Nashville.
1954 – Julie Andrews makes her Broadway debut in The Boy Friend at the
Royal Theatre.
1955 – Fifties youth icon James Dean is killed in a car crash.
1957 – Marty Robbins releases his single, “The Story Of My Life” b/w
“Once A Week Date.”

1969 – David Crosby’s longtime girlfriend, and founder of The Byrds’
fan club, Christine Hinton is killed in a head-on car crash near San
Francisco.
1974 – Police are called to the Louisville Convention Center during a
Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blue Öyster Cult concert when a fight breaks out
between Skynyrd roadies and Cult sound engineers, who are accused of
shutting off Skynyrd’s sound during their set.
1987 – Roy Orbison And Friends: A Black And White Night is filmed at
the Ambassador Hotel's Cocoanut Grove nightclub in Los Angeles, with
guests Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne,
Bonnie Raitt and others.
1988 – John Lennon is posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood

2007 – Country artist Keith Urban crashes his motorcycle on the way to

is uninjured.
2009 – Oklahoma City names an alley for rockabilly artist Wanda
Jackson in the Bricktown entertainment district. Wanda Jackson Way is
officially christened with a live performance by Jackson in her "Way."
