1899 – The world's first radio company, the Marconi Wireless Company
of America, is incorporated in New Jersey.
1938 – Bunny Berigan and His Orchestra records “Jelly Roll Blues.”
1952 – The first Disc Jockey Convention takes place in Nashville.
1955 – After his recent signing with RCA Records, Elvis Presley sends
a telegram to his new manager, Colonel Tom Parker, which reads: "Dear
Colonel, Words can never tell you how my folks and I appreciate what
you did for me. I've always known and now my folks are assured that
you are the best, most wonderful person I could ever hope to work
with. Believe me when I say I will stick with you through thick and
thin and do everything I can to uphold your faith in me. Again, I say
thanks and I love you like a father."

Garfunkel in the ‘60s, appear on American Bandstand, performing their

1968 – In Ireland, Marianne Faithfull, heavily addicted to cocaine,

1969 – Iron Butterfly appears at the Randolph-Macon College in
Ashland, Virginia, in the school's 3,500- seat Crenshaw Gymnasium. The
opening act is Steel Mill, featuring 20-year old Bruce Springsteen.
1976 – Jerry Lee Lewis is arrested for drunk driving in Memphis after
driving his Rolls Royce into a ditch.
1977 – In San Carlos, California, Tony Orlando returns to the concert
stage after a self-imposed 10 month hiatus following the death of his
sister and the suicide death of his friend Freddie Prinze.
1981 – Muddy Waters appears at the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago, and
is joined onstage by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ron Wood who are
currently touring through the Midwest.
1986 – Country music singers Keith Whitley and Lorrie Morgan are
married. It is the second marriage for both.
1987 – Jesus And The Mary Chain singer Jim Reid is arrested in Canada
after assaulting members of the audience with his microphone stand. He
is released on $2,000 bail.
1990 – Rolling Stone Bill Wyman announces the dissolution of his 18
month marriage to model Mandy Smith.
1991 – Alice Cooper comes to the rescue of two fans, Patrick and Dee
Ann Kelly, whose California home is about to be re-possessed when
Patrick paints Cooper’s face on the house to help sell the property.
Alice signs autographs to help raise money for the couple.
1992 – Paul Simon begins his first tour of South America in Brazil.
2000 – A woman’s body is found in a shallow grave in the Santa Clarita
Valley near L.A. Dental records identify the woman on November 28 as
Sandra Rosas, wife of Los Lobos bassist Cesar Rosas, who disappeared
from her home on October 23, 1999.
2002 – Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger announce they will reform The
Doors for the first time in 27 years, replacing original drummer John
Densmore (suffering from hearing loss) with The Police's Stuart
Copeland, and replacing original frontman Jim Morrison with soundalike
Ian Astbury of The Cult.
2003 – ZZ Top plays the final night of their Beer Drinkers And Hell
Raisers Tour at the Compaq Center in Houston. This is also the final
concert at the Compaq Center, which will be renovated into a mega
church.
2003 – Country singer Wynonna marries her second husband and former
bodyguard, D.R. Roach. She will divorce him in 2007 when he is
arrested for sexual assault on a child under 13 years old.
2004 – Ozzy Osbourne struggles with a burglar who escapes with jewelry
worth £2 million from his Buckinghamshire mansion. Ozzy has the masked
raider in a headlock before the burglar breaks free and jumps 30 feet
from a first floor window.
2004 – U2 shoots their video for “All Because Of You” from a moving
flat bed truck on the streets of Brooklyn in New York City. Later in
the day, they perform a brief concert under the Brooklyn Bridge, which
is taped by MTV for a later showing.
2005 – Sixteen pages of poetry written by University of Minnesota
student Robert Zimmerman in 1960 are auctioned off for $78,000 in New
York.
2005 – A gig by former Stone Roses front man Ian Brown is halted after
20 minutes when the floor at the venue begins to sag. 2,000 people are
told to leave Newcastle's Carling Academy, which has only been open
for a month. Organizers claim it was simply a safety precaution after
joists under the main dance floor came out of their springs.
2006 – Mick Fleetwood becomes a naturalized citizen of the United
States.
