1937 – The Andrews Sisters record "Bei Mir Bistu Shein" ("To Me You're
Beautiful"). The song becomes their first hit.
1950 – The musical comedy Guys And Dolls premieres on Broadway at the
46th Street Theatre.
1956 – In a makeshift studio at the Penn-Sheraton Hotel in Pittsburgh,
The Del Vikings record nine a cappella songs, including "Come Go With
Me." Instruments will be overdubbed later.
1957 – Harry Belafonte's "Mary's Boy Child" becomes the first single
to sell a million copies in the UK. The record stays at #1 for an
unheard-of seven weeks.
1958 – Jackie Wilson’s “Lonely Teardrops” hits the Billboard Hot 100.
1958 – Ritchie Valens releases his second single, “Donna” b/w “La
Bamba.”
1958 – Ricky Nelson records "Never Be Anyone Else But You" at Master
Recorders in Hollywood. The Jordanaires will overdub background vocals
on December 11.
1958 – Brenda Lee releases her Holiday single, “Rockin’ Around The

1959 – Singer Johnnie Ray is arrested and jailed in London for
soliciting an undercover officer in a gay bar. He is later found not

1962 – Despite being fired from The Beatles in late August, Pete Best
receives a birthday telegram from Brian Epstein.
1964 – The Who perform for the first time under their new name at
their debut gig at the Marquee Club in London. The date is the start

1964 – The UK's first commercial radio station, Radio Manx, begins

assistant Fred Seaman from 1980. Items on the list include waiting for
the cable guy, fixing the lock on the bathroom door, picking up
marmalade and buying books. The list sells to a Massachusetts
collector for an undisclosed amount.
