1960 – Carl Dobkins Jr., currently serving a six month hitch with the

1963 – The Rolling Stones begin a Sunday residency, playing the
Crawdaddy room at the Station Hotel for the first time.
1964 – The Beatles appear on the cover of Newsweek magazine in the

1965 – The Beach Boys re-record "Help Me, Rhonda" at Radio Recorders
in Hollywood for single release.
1965 – The Supremes, Neil Sedaka, The Barbarians, Stan Getz, Ruth

1966 – The Rolling Stones play the first of three nights at the Palais
Theatre in St. Kilda, Australia, performing two shows a night with The

1967 – The Supremes begin recording “The Happening” in L.A. with the
Funk Brothers on instrumentation and Hal Blaine on drums. The song
will be the last released as The Supremes, after which Diana Ross will

1969 – Johnny Cash performs at San Quentin State Prison in California,
and records the show for album release.
1969 – Jimi Hendrix plays his last British performance at London's
Royal Albert Hall. The show is recorded.
1970 – The Jackson 5 release their single, “ABC” b/w “The Young Folks”
on Tamla Motown.
1973 – The Byrds break up after their appearance at the Capitol
Theater in New Jersey.
1976 – The Eagles' Greatest Hits album becomes the first album to be
certified platinum by the RIAA.
1978 – Ray Charles makes a guest appearance on The Second Barry
Manilow Special on ABC-TV.
1981 – Peter Noone and Stephen Bishop guest star in the "I Do, I Do"

1992 – The U.S. Postal Service unveils two versions of their 29¢ Elvis
Presley stamps: 1950s thin Elvis, and 1970s fat Elvis.
1998 – Elton John is knighted by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.
2000 – Georgie Fame is arrested for drunk driving on his way home from
his concert in Wales. He will be fined £350 and have his driver's
license suspended for a year.
2002 – Charlie Daniels “appears” as himself in the "Peggy's Fan Fair"
episode of Fox's King Of The Hill.
2004 – Singer Lena Horne lashes out and threatens to withdraw
permission for a television movie of her life after star Janet Jackson
suffers her shocking "wardrobe malfunction" at Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Jackson quits the project.
2004 – After EMI refuses to let DJ Danger Mouse release his Grey
Album, a mash-up of Jay-Z's Black Album with samples from the Beatles'
"White Album," the DJ makes the album available as a free download on
hundreds of Internet websites for one day.
2005 – Scottish singer Edwyn Collins is rushed to a hospital after
suffering a brain hemorrhage.
2009 – The United States Mint launches a new coin featuring American
composer, pianist and bandleader Duke Ellington, making him the first
African-American to appear by himself on a U.S. coin.
2010 – Lastonia Leviston files a lawsuit in Manhattan against rapper
50 Cent, claiming he unlawfully distributed a homemade sex video of
Leviston with a lover in 2008, posting the video on his website after
blurring out the lover's face, and editing himself into it as
narrator.
2010 – The personal assistant to former Ramones manager Linda Stein is
convicted in a New York courtroom of bludgeoning her boss to death at
her Manhattan apartment on October 30, 2007. Prosecutors said Natavia
Lowery, 28, stole more than $30,000 from Stein, then clubbed her with
a piece of exercise equipment. Jurors spent less than a day reaching
the second-degree murder verdict.
2010 – Concert promoter company MCD launches a $2.3 million lawsuit
against Prince for pulling out of a concert in Dublin, Ireland in June
2008, ten days before it was to take place. The singer blamed the
William Morris Agency for booking the event without permission, but
the agency said the star cancelled the gig and gave "no reason of
substance" for deciding to pull out.
2012 – A tribute concert for Howlin’ Wolf’s guitarist Hubert Sumlin,
who passed away on December 4, takes place at the Apollo Theater in
Harlem. The Howlin' For Hubert house band includes Danny Kortchmar,
Ivan Neville, Jim Keltner, Larry Taylor and Kim Wilson, among others.
Special guests include Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Warren Haynes,
Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy, David Johansen and many others.
