1950 – Frank Sinatra makes his television debut on NBC's Star Spangled
Revue, with host Bob Hope.
1957 – The Crickets release their single, "That'll Be The Day" b/w
"I'm Looking For Someone To Love" on Brunswick Records. Later in the
day, Buddy and the group record "Not Fade Away" and "Everyday" at
Norman Petty's studio in Clovis, New Mexico.
1957 – Toronto radio station CHUM-AM becomes the first in Canada to
play only Top 40 rock and roll.
1958 – The remaining dates for Jerry Lee Lewis' British tour are
cancelled, and Lewis and his bride are asked to leave the Westbury
Hotel in London, where they have been staying. The pair will leave the
country the next day.
1961 – Johnny Cash appears in "The Deathly Quiet" episode of The
Deputy on NBC-TV.
1962 – "Moon River" is named Record of the Year and Song of the Year
at the 4th Grammy Awards.
1963 – The Beatles release "From Me To You" b/w "Thank You Girl" in
the U.S. on the Vee Jay label. On tour in the UK with Roy Orbison, the
group headlines an evening show at the Capitol Cinema in Cardiff.
Besides Orbison, other acts on the bill include The Terry Young Six,
Ian Crawford, Louise Cordet, David Macbeth, Gerry and The Pacemakers,
and comedian Erkey Grant.
1963 – Elvis Presley records "Memphis, Tennessee," “(It’s A) Long
Lonely Highway,” “Ask Me,” “Slowly But Surely,” “Western Union” and
“Blue River” at RCA Studios in Nashville.
1964 – In Coventry, England, 11 grammar school boys are suspended from
class for having "Mick Jagger hairstyles."
1964 – Screaming Lord Sutch starts his own pirate radio station, Radio
Sutch, and begins broadcasting from the British fort, Shivering Sands.
1966 – The Exploding Plastic Inevitable Show, featuring The Velvet
Underground and The Mothers of Invention, plays its first gig on the
West Coast at San Francisco’s Fillmore West.
1966 – Bob Dylan plays the second of two nights at the Royal Albert
Hall. This is his last concert before his motorcycle accident.

Bocelli, Liza Minnelli members of Queen, to help the United Nations
deal with humanitarian services in war-torn Iraq. The event is
broadcast on Italian television.
2004 – Barry and Robin Gibb, and Maurice's son, Adam, accept the
honors of Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) from
Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
2005 – Robbie Williams is voted Best Live Solo Artist in a UK nation-

2009 – The American Express credit card company sues Courtney Love for
$350,000 in unpaid credit card bills.
2010 – At an AC/DC concert at Wels Airport in Austria, dozens of fans
need medical treatment after complaining of burning eyes. It is later
found that the fans had allergic reactions to bark mulch which was
spread at the venue to avoid the soil getting too muddy after hours of
rainfall.
2012 – Lady Gaga cancels her sold-out show in Indonesia over security
concerns after Islamist hard-liners threaten violence, claiming her
sexy clothes and provocative dance moves will corrupt the youth.
