"This Love Of Mine."
1941 – Ernest Tubb releases his single, “Walking The Floor Over You” b/
w “I’m Missing You” on Decca Records. The single sells a million
copies, and “Walking The Floor Over You” sets the bar for Country’s
“honky tonk” music genre.
1955 – Billboard magazine reports that "The Ballad Of Davy Crockett"
is America's most popular tune, with four different versions of the
song on the charts.
1955 – Elvis Presley performs at the Big D Jamboree at the
Sportatorium in Dallas, Texas, for the first time, which is broadcast
on radio station KRLD.
1957 – The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) is
formed.
1958 – Buddy Holly receives his draft notice, but is refused induction
due to a stomach ulcer and poor eye sight.
1960 – Elvis Presley visits Las Vegas. His entourage is dubbed "The
Memphis Mafia" because of their long coats and sunglasses.
1964 – The BBC receives 8,000 postal applications for tickets for The

1976 – Gregg Allman testifies against Allman Brothers road manager

member of the "family," breaks up. Herring is sentenced to 75 years in
prison.
1977 – Bruce Springsteen settles a two-year legal battle with former
manager Mike Appel, freeing him to return to the studio.
1977 – In Southgate, Kentucky, singer John Davidson escapes injury
when the Beverly Hills Supper Club, where he is performing, catches
fire. 165 people die in the blaze, and 130 others are injured.
1977 – Heart, The Steve Miller Band, The Eagles and Foreigner perform
at the Oakland-Alameda County Stadium in Northern California.
1977 – New band Strontium 90, featuring Mike Howlett, Sting, Stewart

1996 – Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan overdoses and dies on a
speedball, but is revived by paramedics while being rushed to Cedars-
Sinai Hospital in L.A., and is later arrested for possession of heroin
and cocaine.
