1959 – The first *Canadian jazz festival* opens in Toronto with

1963 – Vee-Jay Records presses copies of the album Introducing…The Beatles

1963 – The Beatles spend the day taking photos at the beach with Dezo 
Hoffman. In the evening they play the first of five nights at the Odeon 
Theatre in Weston-Super-Mare with Gerry and The Pacemakers and Tommy

1964 – The film Bikini Beach, starring Frankie Avalon and Annette

London's East Ham Magistrates Court of "insulting behavior" for urinating

Singers at Abbey Road studios in the recording of two songs - “A Beginning” 
and “Good Night” - slated for The Beatles’ next album. The piece “A 
Beginning” was slated as an intro for Ringo’s song “Don’t Pass Me By,” but 
was never used. However, it did appear in their group’s animated film 
Yellow Submarine.

1969 – Aretha Franklin is arrested for disorderly conduct in an altercation 
in a Detroit parking lot. She posts her $50 bail, and then runs over a road 
sign as she leaves the police station in a fit of anger.

1971 – John Lennon and Yoko Ono spend the day filming at their Tittenhurst 
home and around the grounds for a video for Lennon's song "Imagine."

1971 – Stevie Wonder releases his single, “If You Really Love Me” b/w 
“Think Of Me As Your Soldier” on the Tamla label. The single is one of the 
last by Wonder to utilize the Funk Brothers studio band.

1972 – The Bobby Darin Amusement Company debuts on CBS as a summer 
replacement series for The Dean Martin Show.

1972 – Paul and Linda McCartney are arrested for marijuana possession in 
Sweden.

1972 – Loggins and Messina appear on American Bandstand.

1977 – Tony Orlando announces his retirement from show business, partially 
due to the recent suicide of his friend Freddie Prinze.

1978 – Rick James performs “You And I” and “Mary Jane” on American 
Bandstand.

1979 – The Reverend Richard Penniman speaks at a revival in North Richmond, 
California, telling the congregation that rock and roll is evil, and also 
claiming, "If God can save an old homosexual like me, he can save anybody."

1987 – Morris Albert is found guilty of plagiarism in New York when the 
jury finds that his massive 1975 hit, "Feelings," borrowed heavily from a 
French song from 1956 called "Pour Toi."

1989 – Courtney Love marries her first husband, James Moreland from the 
L.A. band Leaving Trains.

1994 – Elton John and Billy Joel play the first of five duet concerts at 
Giants Stadium in New Jersey.

1999 – The four-day Woodstock 1999 festival begins in Rome, New York.

record the show for a live album release.

2007 – After appearing together at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, 
rappers Ja Rule and Lil Wayne are each arrested for firearms possession in 
separate incidences in Manhattan.

2010 – Singer Al Jarreau experiences breathing problems and is rushed to 
the intensive-care unit of a French hospital.

2012 – Darlene Love suffers a minor heart attack before her concert in 
Asbury, New Jersey. She performs the show - not knowing what is wrong - but 
checks into a hospital the next morning when her condition worsens. She 
remains in the hospital for five days.
