1959 – The Quarrymen - consisting of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ken
Brown - play on opening night at Mona Best’s Casbah Coffee Club in

1962 – Elvis Presley’s 10th movie, Kid Galahad, opens in theaters
nationwide.
1964 – The Beatles play their second concert at the Forest Hills Tennis

Memphis for attempting to steal the body of Elvis Presley, where he is

California Tour at the Miami Baseball Stadium in Florida.
1979 – Radio station WBNO in Bryan, Ohio, goes off the grid and becomes the

2000 – Slipknot causes chaos at the Kerrang! Awards in London, smashing
glasses, setting fire to their table, throwing a monitor off the stage and
destroying a microphone. The band goes on to pick up 3 awards, including

2005 – Fats Domino is rescued from his flooded home in New Orleans' Ninth
Ward after Hurricane Katrina.
2007 – The Police begin the European leg of their Reunion Tour at the

2008 – Organizers of the Rock En Seine festival in Paris threaten legal
action against Amy Winehouse when she cancels her appearance as the concert
headliner two hours before show time.
2008 – Rapper DMX (aka Earl Simmons) pleads guilty to trying to buy cocaine
and cannabis in Miami, and is sentenced to time served. However, Simmons is
kept in custody awaiting extradition to Arizona on outstanding drug and
animal cruelty charges.
2012 – Country music singer Leann Rimes voluntarily checks herself into a
30-day rehab facility the day after her 30th birthday.
