1943 – Stan Kenton and His Orchestra records “Artistry In Rhythm” at
Capitol Studios in Hollywood.
1954 – Sammy Davis, Jr. is nearly killed when he crashes into another car
on Route 66 in San Bernardino, while driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles
for a recording session. Three days later, while still in the hospital due
to the severity of his injuries, he permanently loses the use of his left
eye.
1957 – Chicago radio station WCFL bans all of Elvis Presley's records, and
the station is picketed by the local chapter of the Elvis Presley Fan Club.
Nevertheless, the station doesn't budge.
1957 – Marty Robbins appears on American Bandstand.
1957 – The Biggest Show Of Stars ’57 tour stops at the Municipal Auditorium
in Buffalo, New York, featuring The Crickets, The Drifters, Chuck Berry,
Clyde McPhatter, Eddie Cochran, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, LaVerne
Baker, Buddy Knox, Frankie Lymon, Jimmy Bowen and The Rhythm Orchids, and
Paul Anka.
1959 – An unnamed RCA executive tells reporters that when Elvis Presley
returns from the Army, his music will be very different from the rock and
roll he performed previously. Manager Colonel Tom Parker rushes to issue an
official denial to fans.
1959 – Andy Williams records “The Village Of St. Bernadette.”
1960 – While in Los Angeles filming his seventh movie, Wild In The Country,
Elvis Presley suffers a bit of road rage and pulls a gun on a group of
people in another car who had supposedly insulted him.
1962 – The Beatles perform three separate gigs - the first a lunchtime show
at the Cavern, the second an 8pm show at the Smethwick Baths Ballroom in
Bearwood, and lastly a 10pm concert at the Adelphi Ballroom in West
Bromwich.
1964 – Bobby Goldsboro records “Little Things” in Nashville.
1965 – The Kinks, The Who, Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames, The Hollies
and Wilson Pickett all perform at the Glad Rags Ball in London. During The
Who's set, lead singer Roger Daltrey storms off stage due to constant PA
problems.
1965 – The Doors perform at a Hughes Aircraft Union dance in Los Angeles.
1965 – David Bowie and The Lower Third appear at the Marquee Club in London.
1967 – The Supremes and The Temptations perform on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Other musical guests include The Kessler Twins and Fernando Pasqualone.
1968 – The Supremes perform at the Royal Command Variety Performance in
London, and during their set, Diana Ross interrupts the show with a plea
for greater interracial understanding. She receives a two-minute ovation
from the audience, which includes members of the royal family. Queen
Elizabeth II herself stands after Ross' moving performance of West Side
Story's "Somewhere."
1970 – James Brown marries his second wife, Deidre Jenkins, on the front
porch of her house in Barnwell, South Carolina.
1973 – Led Zeppelin begins recording demos for their next album, Physical
Graffiti, at Headley Grange in East Hampshire, England.
1974 – Linda Ronstadt releases her single, “You’re No Good” b/w "I Can't

1975 – The J. Geils Band appears at Cobo Hall in Detroit, and record the

1977 – Joey Ramone receives second-degree burns when a humidifier explodes
in The Ramones' dressing room at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New
Jersey. Ramone performs the show, but spends the next week in a New York
hospital burn center.
1983 – Tina Turner makes her first UK chart appearance in over ten years
with her version of the Al Green hit “Let's Stay Together,” thus beginning
her comeback.
1983 – David Bowie plays the first of two nights at the RAS Showgrounds in
Sydney, during his 10-date Serious Moonlight Tour of Australia and New

Germany, Michael Jackson dangles his newborn son, Prince Michael II, over
the side of the railing.
2003 – Stone Temple Pilots announce they are breaking up.
2003 – Following the raid on his Neverland Ranch the previous day, an
arrest warrant for Michael Jackson is issued in Los Angeles, charging him
with multiple counts of child molestation.
2004 – Rapper Young Buck (aka David Brown) is arrested and charged with
attempted murder after a stabbing at the Vibe hip-hop awards. Buck
allegedly stabbed the man after he allegedly punched rap star Dr Dre in the
face.
2005 – Gary Glitter is arrested for committing lewd acts with two girls in
Vietnam after being detained at Ho Chi Minh airport as he tried to board a
plane to Bangkok.
2005 – Singer Christina Aguilera marries music executive Jordan Bratman in
Napa, California. They stay married six years.

2007 – The Red Hot Chili Peppers sue the Showtime cable network for their
program Californication, saying the title was "immediately associated in
the mind of the consumer" with their 1999 album and single release.
2012 – Two English farmers are found not guilty of health and safety
offenses stemming from an accident where a giant hay bale crushed former
ELO cellist Mike Edwards to death. Edwards was killed instantly on
September 3, 2010, when a 600kg bale rolled down a field and landed on his
van near Totnes in Devon. In March 2011, an inquest jury returned a verdict
of accidental death in regards to Edwards.
