Hi My reply like Archimedes of yore is 'EUREKA'.I #apt-get upgrade libv4 and synaptic did the rest.I shut down the system ,restarted then $ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4/v4l2convert.so skype -enter to get the skype pop up.At options,videodevices selected webcam my mug appeared on the screen this time.Quality comparable with that on Ekiga. The screen shot shows it a deep blue minus human features.Thans for the guidance,hope my effort will help others on a similar quest.Regards and Cheers to the Microdia team.kesava.PS sorry no brevity in this mail
