I would think that using a rel value would make more sense, since rel

The UID seems to be limited to the hcard itself, while the rel's context
is larger; is there a way to tell what context is meant?
No, but then again, the context of a random class attribute is not
necessarily limited to the hcard itself. It is up to whoever defines the
hCard microformat to say what a given attribute means in any given context.
