"May" is insufficient in this case, as such machine mediated interpretation is a "theoretical" (or certainly not available to many people) and thus

The "tooltip" is the only practical semi-visible method available currently.

If you need to see the machine data for your own QA, you could write a JavaScript bookmarklet to pull it out of a more appropriate place. You're making the same case that it "may" be forgotten and therefore get out of date.

If you have a deployed practical semi-visibility alternative to the tooltip,
I'm very much interested to hear it.

I implemented neither, but Operator and Tails both do this already.
