That shouldn't have been necessary, but shouldn't do any harm either.

No. The Midgard patches to PHP add functionality to PHP, they don't
alter PHPs existing behaviour, so normal PHP pages should work as-is.
In what way are your pages broken. What does the logfile say? Can
you still server static html pages?
