Yes, I can see that not listing articles with the 'up'
field set might be useful under some conditions, but
it seems that it would be more reasonable if all the
articles were listed by default, with extra logic
necessary to suppress the articles articles with
nonzero reply fields.

This won't give you a listing of articles with the
'up' field pointing to an article with a different topic
however... admittedly this isn't the usual case, but
that's what I've run into. ;-)
