Hello everyone! I've been lurking and learning and trying to load Midgard on
and off for over a month with no success. Midgard seems to be a great web
application server and I really want to install it on my RaQ3 server. Yes, I
am a newbie to the linux world and this is the reason I bought the Cobalt
server. But after realizing its limitations, I knew I had to get into the
command line mode.
You see, I am really a metal artist/designer with a desire to help establish
a free online community for the metal art community. I started the ArtMetal
Project on the web back in 1994 and have developed a good community of metal
artisans. Now I have this server and thousands of html pages which are
static and is the main reason for desiring to use Midgard. You can see the
current project at:

So much for the intro! It's time to ask for your assistance. I am stuck at
the very end of the Midgard1.4beta4 installation and want to reference the
following message. Please note that the last time I tried to install, I
spent over 36 hours researching, learning, and installing the midgard
application server. I am about to give up and wait for the 2.0 version but
thought I would try to consult the list in an attempt to get help. So here
it goes.

This is one of the places I get stuck and am wondering about symlinks. I've
read that some installations do not work well with symbolic links and wonder
if this might be the case with me and my RaQ3 server. Anyway, for your
reference, this is what my directory /usr/local/lib looks like:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 195976 Aug 6 18:00 libmidgard.a
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 703 Aug 6 18:00 libmidgard.la

libmidgard.so.2.1.2

Ok, so I've taken this comment and compiled midgard-php-1.4beta4 using the
following entry:
export LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib/mysql -L/usr/local/lib -lmysqlclient -lcrypt"
export LIBS=$LDFLAGS
export LIB=$LDFLAGS
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin
CC=cc ./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-midgard --with-mysql
Everything seemed to work well with make and make install. I went into my
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and uncommented the lines to load LoadModules and
AddModules. Then I restarted the server with the following commands:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start
And I still get the error message:
Setting up Web Service: Syntax error on line 31 of
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/libphp3.so into server: libmidgard.so.3: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/httpd

Emile, I looked at configure.in and noted that the withwal was not in it. I
did however find the withval text, so I am assuming that the version which I
have is current.
I have run out of ideas for trying to install midgard. Should I just give up
and wait for version 2?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give!
Sincerely,
