No, the symlinks are OK. Some platforms do seem to have issues with
dynamic loadable libraries (shared object files). While I am not sure
it is always the case, the RaQs that I installed Midgard on did.

Have you added /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and re-ran ldconfig after
the installation?
