Hei there,
I have been trying over the past few months to get acquainted to Mifos , both
version 2.x and the Mifos X, but unfortunately I found out that the
installation process was not as easy and straightforward as it is described in
the installation protocol. I for one , have tried to get it installed on both
PC and Mac ( even tried using MAMP,) but still failed to get it up and running.

It is my impression that this is certainly a consequence of its dependencies as
a web based database. For those of us with limited technical knowledge, the
alternative is to either resort to the forums , which means spending hours and
days searching for a solution on the internet, or find a local Mifos
specialist, if at all they are available. Both these resources are scarce in
the typical " cash strapped" setting of a village based or budding MFI. It also
creates a lot of frustration which in turn puts off potential users, forcing
them to look for other alternatives.

I do think that an " out of the box " self installation package ( just like
Microsoft office package or any other programs ) would go a long way to address
these woes. Furthermore, the support forums require a lay out that would easily
guide a potential user to potential solution(s). Where possible , it would have
been nice to have an online manual, a kind of " FAQ ", based on the common
problems or errors usually encountered during the installation and
implementation of Mifos.

Regards
