You haven't enabled the embedded interpreter, or you wouldn't see "mimedefang.pl" processes. You need the -E option to mimedefang-multiplexor. Even if you enable the embedded interpreter, "ps" won't reveal much, because it doesn't show how much of that memory is shared. "top" is the key; you should see much more memory shared in 2.39+embedded than in 2.38.
