I'm struck here that we could get started. We could run a system that
would compete with "capitalist democracy" on a fair basis, on an
understanding amongst a League of Democracies that we would be about
creating a better, fairer society. Mostly human beings had to run
away to try this in history - now we are faced with doing this
internally. Easy enough to think of Lebensraum by chosen people with
tanks idiotologies or to reinvent Utopia without a grasp of its irony
(the word suggests an 'existing nowhere' meaning). I tend to believe
philosophy cannot answer here. We might have to consider whether
"Western values" may have the potential to help in creating something
worthwhile stripped of libidinal excess, recognise what is universal
in them and how we could establish countervailing structures for a
fair and enjoyable competition we could all engage with. Animal Farm
got much right in the sense of warning we need a democratic armed
services and such to prevent despotism and living in fear of anyone
who can train dogs.
